Since taking a stand in support of the transit reform proposal on the April 21 ballot, we at Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Baton Rouge (CCDBR) have been asked repeatedly: Why? To many, it seems out of character for our agency -- which is known for its acts of charity and service to the poor -- to take a stand on a public policy issue, especially one involving a tax.

About 40 people interested in learning about public transit reform from a faith-based perspective attended a one-hour discussion on April 18, 2012 moderated by Brian Haldane, Talk 107.3 FM Morning Show Host .  Following an overview of the reform package by CPEX, Catholic Charities board members and leadership connected the dots between the upcoming election, advocacy and Catholic Social Teaching. The audience had an opportunity to submit questions to the panel.
