May 28, 2013--David Aguillard, Executive Director of Catholic Charities Diocese of Baton Rouge (CCDBR), announced that tomorrow staffer Carol Spruell will be deployed to assist Catholic Charities of Oklahoma Disaster Response after the May 20 tornadoes.
"Our staff is in high demand when the subject of disaster response and relief is on the table," said Aguillard. "This diocese has more experience in disasters of this magnitude as any other in the country."
"Following both Katrina and Gustav, most of the CCUSA network agencies supported our response efforts here in Baton Rouge," continued Aguillard. "It's an honor to reciprocate with the lessons learned following our work following Katrina and Gustav."
During her stay, Spruell will assist with the organization's communications, social media, fundraising and publicity. She served in a similar role in 2009 during her deployment to American Samoa when a tsunami destroyed much of the coastal areas and again in response to the 2010 Alabama Spring tornadoes.
Spruell is the agency's Communications Coordinator and has been with the organization for 14 years. Additionally, Spruell teaches a course on communication and fundraising after disaster to the CCUSA member agencies and serves on the steering committee for the CCUSA Development-Communications Membership Committee.
